CANADIAN IDOL Billy Klippert returns to town Oct. 11 |
|
Next weekend, Billy Klippert returns to Calgary the conquering hero. Well, maybe not the conquering hero — he did place third in the Canadian Idol competition which wrapped up in mid-September.
But it’s doubtful anyone will quibble about where he placed in the popular televised song competition when the 25-year-old comes home for a special homecoming celebration on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. at the Sun Centre (2834 Falaise Ave. S.W.) At the Calgary Sun-sponsored event, Klippert plans to sing an Idol medley, play some of his own songs, answer fans’ questions and sign autographs. It will be the first time the singer will have been home since the show ended — he’s been in Toronto — and to say he’s looking forward to it is an understatement. “Absolutely, it’s going to be great,” Klippert says. “I’m looking forward to being home and seeing my dog, seeing my family and definitely coming back to see the people that made me go as far as I went, and that’s the Calgarians.” He was already given a taste of what to expect when he came back for a day during the competition to film a special segment for the show. “I went to this one place and I thought they were joking,” he says. “I couldn’t believe how people were screaming and yelling. It was a little bit scary. “I thought, ‘Is this put on?’ ” Since then, he’s come to realize that it is in fact very real, and a reality that he has to deal with no matter where he goes. He was recently mobbed at a Sam Roberts concert in Toronto, and, for his own safety, had to be herded backstage where he met actor Woody Harrelson, who told Klippert that he should have won Idol. “My life is different because I walk down the street and people stop me on the street and ask me for my autograph every day,” Klippert says. “There’s a lot of people who watched that show, that’s for sure, and know who I am.” Now there are a lot of people in the music industry who know who Billy Klippert is — and they want a piece of him. Although he’s still contractually obligated to Canadian Idol and CTV until December, he’s already been fielding offers from labels, managers, producers and other songwriters who want to work with him when he’s a free agent. But despite accepting one or two things already, including a songwriting session in Vancouver with John Wozniak of Marcy Playground fame and an upcoming Western Canada tour with his own band Kovered In Lies, Klippert is wisely biding his time and waiting for the right opportunities to come along. “They never really told us much about what was going to happen to us after this show,” says the singer, who already has a publicist in Toronto. “I’ve kind of been bombarded by all the opportunities. So I’m just learning how to sort things out and pick a path that I want to go in.” And asked whether or not all of the great offers coming his way have somehow lessened the blow of losing the Canadian Idol crown, Klippert doesn’t hesitate. “I haven’t thought about losing since the day after I lost,” he says. “It wasn’t a devastating thing at all. “I know those guys — Ryan (Malcolm, the winner) and Gary (Beals, the first runner-up) — so well. It was never a competition, really. “It was just a show, to show off what we do and take it from there … It was more of a stepping stone and a lot of exposure. “I never thought of easing the pain of losing, (because) I never felt that I lost.” Article came from here |

Mrs. Billy must be "someone who can get along with my family, no matter how strange they are." - Deal breaker: A needy, insecure person who cuts other people down. - What it would take to get him to say "I do": He doesn't want to be rushed. Malcolm X-Factor: A Look At Why He Won |
|
He was lucky the Judges gave him a second chance to sing during his audition after he blew the first song, he was lucky he was selected to return to Toronto as a Wild Card, he was lucky the producers’ made a last second decision to add him as a second Wild Card after Toya Alexis when only one is allowed, he is lucky he was dubbed from Fans as the Canadian Clay, he is lucky he has Malcolmanics, he was damn lucky as Hell he managed to survive the top five bottom two against Jenny, he was lucky Billy was voted out of the top two, and he was lucky Billy’s fans decided to take a grudge against poor Gary in the finale. Indeed, a chain reaction of luck and fate were on Mr. Malcolm’s side…however it takes more than luck to pull off something as large as this, so moving on. Jean-Pierre Peddle

Is that a ticking sound? |
|
Ryan Malcolm needs a cigarette. It's only been 26 minutes since Canadian Idol host Ben Mulroney crowned him the new prince of Canadian music, and Malcolm -- standing backstage at Toronto's John Bassett Theatre -- already needs a break from the chaos. Family and friends have offered their congratulations. The press has had its first crack at him, and even American Idol winner Ruben Studdard has whispered advice in Malcolm's ear. "He told me to get some sleep," says a stunned Malcolm between drags on a Player's Light.

If you continue on to read the rest of the article, it has very little to do with Canadian idol, ryan or anything else, it is the media's way of trying to drown pop stars into a vat of sugar sweetness.. who cares if Ryan smokes, who cares if he drinks, who cares if he talks to blondes.. Geez. The media is the scourge of all evil and people buy into it because they are nothing but sheep who are looking for a shepard. I wish people would take a stand and stop letting the media ruin their lives, the world might be a better place. Forget hate and racisim, get rid of the media and we might actually move forward to a world filled with peace and harmony...

I want to go to the city |
|
I haven't been there since May and I'm starting to get a little itching that says, "You must go shopping Now.."
It's hard when you live so far away and it sucks to get to the city in the first place. It's so expensive and it takes so long... I have little patience... I just want to shop! The city has all the best stores too. It's awesome. I'm running low on smelly stuff from The Body Shop and I'm desperate to actually see the new fall line.. Ahhh!! I'd love to do a bit of Christmas shopping too.. If I happen to disappear for a few days, I'm either at the mall or my computer is injured.. |

Ryan Malcolm wins Canadian Idol |
|
“My work is like my home: everybody knows and cares about everybody else. The restaurant is located in a small town, so all of our customers support my music. They always have.” Known for producing some of this country’s most talented musicians, it is no surprise that Kingston has produced a Canadian Idol finalist. Ryan Malcolm works at Nostalgia Station, his family’s restaurant in Amherstview, Ontario, and sings in his family’s band– sometimes both at the same time. “I remember in high school I missed every school dance because I was singing at my parent’s restaurant,” he says. Ryan prefers to sing classic music, like The Beatles and CCR, but compares himself to Dave Matthews and counts himself a fan of Avril Lavigne, who went to the same high school. Ryan studied policing at St. Lawrence College, and when not singing with the trio A Bit of Nostalgia, he writes music, plays guitar and golfs. Indeed, Ryan looks to Mike Weir for inspiration. “Mike Weir is a perfectionist when it comes to the game of golf,” says Ryan. “He never settles for being an average player, and I admire that.” Found at Idol.tv |

Levon wears his war wound like a crown He calls his child Jesus 'cause he likes the name And he sends him to the finest school in town. Levon, Levon likes his money He makes a lot they say Spend his days counting In a garage by the motorway He was born a pauper To a pawn on a Christmas day When the New York Times Said God is dead and war's begun Alvin Tostig has a son today And he shall be Levon And he shall be a good man And he shall be Levon In tradition with the family plan And he shall be Levon And he shall be a good man He shall be Levon. Levons sells cartoon balloons in town His family business thrives Jesus blows up balloons all day Sits on the porch swing watching them fly And Jesus, he wants to go to Venus Leave Levon far behind Take a balloon and go sailing, While Levon, Levon slowly dies. Billy not idle |
|
The reception was more private compared to the Sept. 1 event that saw about 350 Calgarians show their support for Klippert. But there were still colourful homemade signs — “Billy rocks” being one example — and plenty of whoops and hollers when Klippert advanced to the final three. Interestingly, even though Klippert ranked high enough to stay out of the bottom two, Jim says his son — who he spoke to Sept. 2 prior to the broadcast — was feeling anything but confident about his chances before hand. “It was scary. It’s very tense, it gets to you,” the senior Klippert said after his son made the cut. “(Billy) felt some strange vibes (Sept. 2) like there was something in the air against him.” Perhaps adding to the Klippert clan’s case of nerves was that the show’s producers switched songs on Billy at the last minute. The Sept. 1 episode — watched by about 2.5 million Canadian, according to CTV — saw the four finalists perform love songs after spending some of last week visiting diva extraordinaire Celine Dion in her opulent Las Vegas digs. Klippert performed Hooked On A Feeling first — meeting with a somewhat tepid response from the judges — before belting out Aerosmith’s I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing to universal praise. But despite the elation he felt for his son’s continued success, Jim noted that, during the three weeks he spent in Toronto with Klippert and his brother Ben, he and de Montigny’s father had become good friends. “He was my best buddy there … I got to know all the 11 finalists. They were a great bunch of kids. I really liked them. “It really becomes like a big family. It’s not really a competition. They all root for each other.” Article by Kevin Williamson |

Billy’s swan song |
|
He left on a “Billy note.” The Calgarian who wowed Canadian Idol viewers with his unabashed hard-rocking style and powerful notes left the stage singing fan favourite Levon.
But not before words were exchanged between the Gary Beals and Billy Klippert camps, proving rumours of animosity between the sides may have been brewing all week. At one point, Billy pleaded from stage that Beals supporters “be nice” after one woman said “we’ll see ya later Billy.” “I’ve never been so insulted in my entire life,” said the outspoken Klippert after a reporter asked him about his brother, who left the auditorium steaming at the behest of a show stagehand. “No one hated me before Canadian Idol,” said Klippert qualifying the statement by saying the show has been the highlight of his life. It was the end of a star odyssey for Klippert who managed to capture the audience attention with his humble interviews, fiery performances and booming voice. The judges were split on who should leave — Jake and Zack said Gary, while Sass and Farley said it should be Billy’s farewell performance. His competitors had kind words for the “standout” after the show was over. “Billy was awesome,” said Ryan Malcolm, smoking a cigarette with a beer in hand, saying he loves the Albertan’s “big heart.” “We were with each other 24 hours … 18 hour days — we shared each other’s sweat and blood,” said Malcolm, adding it will be easier on everyone having Billy on hand for the next week. Billy was equally sad to part with his competitors, calling Beals “an excellent guy” and Malcolm his “best friend” throughout the pop journey. “Ryan has been my best friend through everything — he’s hilarious,” said Klippert, who admitted to being stressed out the entire time. “He’s helped me so much with everything.”Article written by Kevin Masterman |

Canadians Can Sing All Right...They Just Can't Freakin' Vote! |
|
Recently in the Toronto Star, a quote was published from an American who had just discovered Canadian Idol. This was their assessment: "The format is almost identical to our own American Idol, but with a few key differences. For one — and I'm going to try to put this delicately — they can't freakin' sing!!!" Well, I imagine that this American had just viewed the tape of the Motown theme on Canadian Idol that originally aired on August 11th, and since this had been such a disastrous program, I can understand the American's assessment. However, that particular program was the only major disaster so far on CI performed by the group of contestants overall, although there have been several minor disasters throughout. The most recent one was the elimination of Billy Klippert last night (September 9th). Then again, to call Billy's elimination a minor disaster might be somewhat of an understatement. A man my age usually reserves his tears for the funerals of close relatives, and yet last night, when I saw Billy Klippert's elimination from this competition, my eyes welled up like fountains. In my grief, I recalled this quote by the American and thus came to be the title of this article. We now have our Top 2 -- Ryan Malcolm and Gary Beals. I was expecting Gary to be eliminated last night, even though he has been a favourite of mine from the very start. So, why the tears and the grief? Well, the answer is very simple: Billy Klippert was the last true Canadian Idol that we let slip through our fingers. We Canadians just don't know how to freakin' vote! Something isn't right... |
|
It was a bittersweet night for Billy Klippert's voice coach, Gil Epneris, who hopes CTV will launch an investigation into problems encountered by Western Canadian voters.
The Calgarian had strong audience support at the final show -- more than half rose to applaud his solo appearance. "It seems like Eastern Canada gets longer voting periods," Epneris said. "I'm very disappointed."
He said CTV should have a pay-to-vote system in place rather than the sudden deluge of millions of votes that clogged the phone system.
